Painting, regardless of its subject, abstract, figurative, geometric, will have different meanings for different people. Diverse cultures and the subjective reality principle will affect the interpretation of the image.
To cover a flat surface with paint and with the objective of making it come alive, one must consider the formal elements of line, mass, shape, surface texture, and most importantly one’s individual perception of colour. It should be emphasized that these elements must be given all due consideration before it is possible to make a credible image. The spiritual message is a formal synthesis of this engagement. I consider all serious painting a form of visual poetry.
My work investigates the relation between geometry and colour (light), rather than the narrative context of the figure. It has evolved naturally in my painting and particularly in my sculpture. My shaped canvases series is about the material relationship between painting and sculpture. This was a discovery early on, having a natural affinity for the three-dimensional form. My recent Nile Series combines the colour symbolism of the river’s three branches (blue, white and red), the geometry of the Egyptian pyramids and circles of light.
